Eventide H8000 with Apogee and Pro Tools Hardware

  Hi everyone,
  
  I have a 2005 Eventide H8000. I am running apogee A/D and D/A converters with a Pro Tools Digital 192 and Pro Tools HD3 version 8. I am running this on a Mac G4 1.25ghz with mac osx 10.5.8. In the past I have run my Eventide using AES with the Digital 192. I have had no problems up until now. Now when I patch in the H8000 I get this loud digital noise that constantly peaks out. Really LOUD! I also have a TC Reverb 4000. I run this guy via AES also. It works no problem. I have even swapped the AES cables from the working TC unit and plugged them into the Eventide. Still the same problem……. After hours of troubleshooting it is very clear that the H8000 is the problem. Any suggestions on how to resolve this??? Would it be easier to just go spdif directly into the 192 from the H8000?

  It's not at all clear what is connected to what and how, so rather hard to answer.
  
  Make sure that the H8000 shows locked on all its connected digital inputs.

  Let me see if I can explain the signal flow better.
  
  I am running Pro Tools HD3 version 8. I have an older Apogee AD16 and DA 16. Both of these units talk to Pro Tools through a Digital 192 via adat optical. I also have a newer Apogee AD16 that talks through a card like all of the newer units.
  
  I have and Eventide H8000 that is connected via AES to the Digital 192. BNC wordclock cables start with the first Apogee unit and loop with all of this gear. I am using the apogee clocks for word clock.
  
  When I create an aux send in pro tools I use and i/o on channels 15 and 16 of the digital 192 and the eventide H8000. Once I bus a track to this aux send I get a nasty digital noise that pegs the meter board. I have gone over and over the owner's manual and all inputs are set up properly in the H8000. I also know that all AES cables are good because I have tested another digital effects processor with the same cables and I/os in pro tools. It is very clear that the problem is the Eventide itself..
  
  I did notice that the Eventide is reading the correct sample rate of 48K but it's flashing. Should I start the word clock loop with eventide or should I end the loop with the word clock???
  
  any more suggestions would be very much appreciated!

  Hey Nickrose also in response to our last post…. DIN 1/2 show's ok but DIN 3/4 and Adat both show unlocked on the set up page. How do i go about locking these down? The sampling rate is locked at 48k with the ext led blinking in time. When i engage the soft button under the inputs tab it only give me the option of changing DIN 1/2 from AES to s/pdif

  It sounds like you issues are bigger than this forum. With all the equipment you have, you probably need specialist help to set it up properly.
  
  But, as regards the H8000, if the DIN3/4 and ADAT are connected and not showing locked you have to fix this if you want to use them. The unlocked warning is a sign that something is wrong (bad cable, settings somewhere) – you can't just change it.
  
  You should probably use WordClock to lock all the parts together, and make sure that the H8000's clock source is set to Wordclock . The Wordclock input may also have to be enabled. See the UM for information on this.
  
  Also, Worclock should not be looped through – it should come from one place and be connected to all equipment directly. Something like an Apogee Big Ben is often used for this purpose.
  
  Can't really offer much help here – you need someone who knows what they are doing to set up your system properly.

  Whats the point of the apogee in this signal chain? If its already being converted one way or another in the 8000, why go thought the whole process of converting the signal twice again? Makes no sense. One of the "one-stop all-in one shop" reasons I am likely getting an 8000 is to not need an apogee symphony – therefore saving lots of money.
