Hello I really hope someone could help me. Yesterday I was playing with my H9 hooked up to the fx loop (parallel) of my jc – 40, today I stumbled across an issue with the tone and sound
With the H9 either engaged or bypassed the midrange sounds weird and out of phase, every time I hit the E string of my guitar sounds muted and without mid range, single notes sound horrible and low end drops a little. Overall volume drops a bit but not as much as I’ve experienced in other situations of severe out-of-phase guitar signals.
Currently the only thing a I have plugged in this amp’s fx-loop is the Eventide H9.
H9’s killdry function is off and Bypass mode is set to dsp fx, In and out volumes are set at unit 0db.
If i switch the H9’s bypass mode to RELAY the problem doesn’t happen when it’s bypassed – all sounds full and glorious with no phase issues. But when I engage the H9 it’s out of phase again, regardless of bypass mode.
Activating killdry didn’t help either, so I reset killdry off.
Just to make sure the problem is not the amp’s fx-loop I attached the strymon el capistan and it works ok? I’ve also factory reset the H9 without any luck
I reconnect the H9 and it is out of phase again.
Like previously mentioned, everything was working fine until today.
Any help will be highly appreciated 🙁

Hello Blonderehead,
I was playing with my H9 hooked up to the fx loop (parallel) of my jc – 40
It’s more ideal with the H9 to use the FX loop in series. This way, the pedal itself handles the mix between dry and wet and all you have to do is tweak Mix/Intensity controls to dial in the proper wetness.
If you use parallel, then you have to use the H9 in Kill Dry mode so that your not combining the dry signal of the parallel loop with the dry signal going into the H9. This usually causes comb-filtering, which is what you’re experiencing. Of course, if you choose to run the JC40 with a parallel FX loop, you’ll need to adjust the Mix/Intensity parameters of all your presets to achieve a proper balance. Basically, the higher the Mix control, the louder the wet effect will be.
Activating killdry didn’t help either, so I reset killdry off.
When running parallel loops, Kill dry should be set to on.
Like previously mentioned, everything was working fine until today.
Do you remember what you did differently? Could it be that you were running a serial effects loop on the JC40 before? Is it possible you made a routing adjustment in the System Setting on the H9 that caused this issue?
