I wasn’t using the Strymon cable, but own one and just tried it. That DOES work (but of course doesn’t fit my board because it lacks right angles where I need them!)
On the Strymon website, they offer a right-angle MIDI to right-angle TRS option of their MIDI TRS cable. Might just have to bite the bullet and invest in one.
