Is allowing a fuzz to clip H90 input safe ?

I have a Chasebliss Automatone MKII going into the input of the the H90. It has a ton of output and some of my fuzz setting are clipping the H90 (ie. red is on most the time) If I sent mind how this sounds is it safe to let the fuzz continue to clip the input ?

I guess the question should be – why would you do that? Most people put their effects at unity gain except maybe a boost pedal for solos…

 

you can turn down the input gain on the h90 if you must keep your fuzz dimed…

Unity gain has always seemed to be very subjective in my experience. I’d like the fuzz to be louder as it is my lead tone for some songs. In my experience fuzz needs a little extra kick to cut through the mix.  I play with a plexi style amp driven but not cranked (but not clean either).

So really my question is the same – is it safe to overdrive the h90 input.  It also adds an interesting clipping to the fuzz.

as a side note you did give me a good idea by posing your question.

Since I am using using the MKII and the H90 with midi I could simply make my midi controller boost the output volume on the H90 when I activate the fuzz.  Thanks for that 🙂

If you don’t mind the sound being bad, you shouldn’t have any issues driving the H90 input with anything up to a full-scale line level signal (regardless of your input level setting).
