Hi,
I picked up an Apogee Big Ben 192 to clock my DAW and other equipment including the H8000FW. The Big Ben requires 75 ohm termination to function properly but I've read in previous posts that the H8000FW was burned in on the bench with 50 ohm termination. Will 75 ohm termination be a problem?
Thanks,
Vince

The H8000FW is different from other Eventide equipment in that it has no internal WC (Word Clock) termination, allowing to be used in the middle of a WC chain.
This does mean that if it is to be used at the end of a WC chain or cable it requires external termination. See the User Manual for more information.
If external termination is used it may be 50 ohm or 75 ohm (the H8000FW does not care), but it should match the source.
Or, to answer your question directly, 75 ohm will be fine.

Perfect! That's exactly what I was looking for. The BigBen requires 75 ohm terminiators to function properly. I was concerned that the H8000FW would have an issue with 75 ohm termination.
Thanks,
Vince

Vince,
could you please tell us if – after having clocked the H-8000FW from the BigBen – you have noticed a change in the sound? Is it barely perceptible or more than this?

Sure. I'm waiting for my Apogee WE-BB cables (Word Clock Wyde-Eye) to arrive from audiomidi.com. As soon as they come I'll do some testing and post the results here.
Cheers,
Vince

Harrie,
Sorry I haven't had a chance to set up
the testing yet. My real job has had me crunched overtime. I'm going to
try to get some audio samples up as soon as I can get out of this
crunch. Hopefully this weekend. This is the plan for the comparison.
DAW:
RME fireface 800, Cubase 4
Sample:
Acoustic guitar direct input (Taylor T5) as not to "color" the sound with room and mic acoustics.
Audio:
Fireface 800 96K unclocked, dry
Fireface 800 96K clocked, dry
Fireface 800 96K clocked, Eventide H8000FW 96K effect unclocked, wet
Fireface 800 96K clocked, Eventide H8000FW 96K effect clocked, wetFireface
is direct connected to a Macbook pro via FW, H8000FW will be connected
via ADAT to the Fireface. I have to get the routing worked out between
both units.Hopefully that will provide a sampling of the differences the BigBen can make (if any) on the DAW and effects (H8000FW).
Cheers,
Vince
