  Hi there
  
  I am still trying to figure out this xlr to unbalanced issue.
  
  I think i have the right cables. XLR to a 1/4 Jack that only has one ring
  
  Is this the correct cables or do i need something specific because its still seems noisy to me.
  
  Also I have a MacPro with the digital connectors I wanted to get the right cabling (tosLink)?
  
  Am i able to transmit 96k via this as i have a apogee duet which doesn't have digital.

  If you want to connect from an XLR to a mono jack (tip and sleeve only) both the screen (pin 1) and one of the other pins (2 or 3) must be connected to the sleeve of the jack. Otherwise you WILL get noise.
  
  I assume your MacPro tosLink connectors are for stereo S/PDIF. If so, these should work at 96K. Eclipse does not support an ADAT format (4 or 8 channels) at 96K.

  If they have 1/4" jacks you could certainly use them. Note that you have a greater chance of noise and ground loops when going unbalanced.
