Anybody else seen this? About 80% of the time, when editing a factory preset name on PF that is too long to display without scrolling and is longer than the new name, I can delete all the extra characters except the last one and there is no phantom space at the end. Sometimes I can change the last character to a space and sometimes I can't change it to anything other than what it was. However, if I go ahead and save the preset, the correct name is then displayed – the extra character is gone.
There were two presets that didn't do this… 1:1 and 4:1 displayed the phantom space & everything correctly. I did see this behavior on presets 1:2, 2:1, 2:2, 3:1, 3:2, 4:2, 5:1, and 5:2. The main difference there is that the 2 that did work correctly did not contain any spaces in the original names. All the others did.
I think this is just the display failing to update correctly when dealing with off-screen characters (perhaps a display buffer issue or a display refresh issue). As before, the name is actually entered correctly and displays correctly after the save operation is completed. Also, this is only on my PF… Renaming worked as designed on my TF & MF.
Obviously, this doesn't impact the usability of the pedal, but it did make me scratch my head a few times. It's a pretty minor issue, but I wanted to bring it to Eventide's attention in case I'm not the only one who's run into this.

I think that you are encountering the (possibly secret) name length limit of 16 characters – once you get to this, it won't let you add any more, hence no phantom space.
If you get a chance, try it again and see if this is the case.

You're probably right about running into the limit. Even after deleting all but 6 characters, in the shortest new-name example, the trailing space didn't reappear, but, like I said, it saved the name correctly… just didn't display it correctly until the save had been completed.
For example, I tried renaming preset 1:1, "Storyteller" as "Detune"… the "r" stayed on the end until I completed the save. I couldn't make it do it again, though, it only seems to be when I rename factory presets and then, not always, but only during the save. It's a really minor issue…
Thanks for looking into it!!

Wanted to add that when I renamed "Storyteller", I did so by changing, then deleting characters, so the most I ever had entered at once was 11. I changed the "S" to "D", then "t" to "e", and so on, until I had "Detuneeller", then I deleted characters starting with the 2nd "e", "l", and so on until I had "Detuner". At this point there was no trailing space and I could not change the "r" to anything other than "r". I then completed the save operation and the name appeared correctly. I could not repeat this, though, on this preset. Additional saves with this preset went as expected.
I wonder if this is somehow related to the issue Rabiddiabetic reported where the Learn function doesn't always display the new key, although at least in my case the key is actually changed. It's like the display isn't refreshing under certain circumstances. Just a thought…

We've found a bug (shock horror), where the 16 character cannot be deleted. It will be fixed in the full/next release.
