It is commonplace for voice processors to have a mode that will shift an incoming note (e.g., microphone voice) to the pitch defined by a Midi key. In this case, the pitch shift amount is ‘arbitrary’ (not fixed) as the amount is that which is necessary to have the resulting pitch be the Midi defined pitch. In other words, the pitch shift amount is adaptive. I have an inexpensive harmonizer that performs this function, but was expecting to have a more robust solution implemented in the H8000.

First – does the H8000 architeciture support this type of adaptive pitch shifting ?

Second – has anyone ever drafted a Vsig definition for this function ?

      Thanks,

      Jack

There is a "MIDI Harmony" preset, but this only shifts by the absolute amount of the MIDI value.

You could modify the sigfile so the "pitch" output of the shifter was subtracted from the MIDI value.

This might give a bit of raggedness at the start of each note, depending how well the pitch detector liked the input signal.

I’m aware of the Midi presets, they do not perform what I am seeking. Yes or No ? Can the H8000 perform adaptive pitch shifting of an input to an ouput pitch defined by a Midi input key (think of it as a custom scale defined in real time by the Midi input key(s)) ? This should be a straight forward Yes or No question. If Yes, then I need more details on how to design the preset if it doesn’t exist.

The H8000 has 1500 different presets but does not have the specific one you are looking for. That would be a NO.

It has the capability to do what you want, but this would require some work on your part (there is a bit of a learning curve).

As mentioned in my last reply, you must modify the sigfile to subtract the current "pitch" output from the MULTISHIFTER from the MIDINOTE value.

If you want to do this, you will need to invest some time in studying how the unit works – it's not something we can do for you.

We have not done this ourselves so I cannot give you specific advice. If you are interested enough, you will need a PC, download Vsig, and study the documentation.

Very well. Thanks for the tip on a way to alter the Vsig file. I may eventually attempt to alter a Vsig file or two. I have started reading all the documentation.

With a tool of this price range and calibre I was also surprised there was no pre set for this. Would be interested in this if you get it flying

BUT NOT HALF AS SURPRISED ABOUT “Eventides  BEST KEPT SECRET” , NO FRIGGING BESPOKE VSIG FOR OSX.

I do not know one pro musician or facillity that does not run OSX

Since I have another voice processor (TC Helicon VoiceOne) that does this function, that is, correction of a voice to a MIDI note, I don’t have much motivation to try messing with VSIG. With so many things to master in a modern home studio, I likely won’t mess with VSIG unless I feel I have to.

The H8000FW hardware is great, but it seems to me there is a big missed opportunity on the SW side that could make the device MUCH easier to adapt and use in various applications. I’m surprised at the lack of third party and/or user information available out on the web. Since the H8000FW is nearing end of life from a support perspective (many parts are out of manufacture), I wonder if Eventide is working on a new product….

        Happy New Year

At this late date, I’m a bit amiss too. But, as always you have to consider the state of the art at the time the device was developed and not near it’s end of life. It’s quite possible I made more business sense to support Windows instead of OSX at that time. The real question is: can I run VSIG in a virtual machine under virtual box, or parallels and still not had have to commit valuable space and time to a Windows machine – I hate having Windows in my workflow, but sometimes you can’t avoid it – when you can’t avoid it will a virtual machine work, instead of bare metal desk weight.

        Yes you can. !

It runs fantastic here. I have running LogicAudio in Backround ( reatime !) at the same time, while Vsig sending and received Data to/from H8000fw.

Also the other Projekt ” Voice to Midi ” V-Versa is no Problem on H8000fw. You have to learn Vsig – It´s not an environment for “On the Fly”. There are many possibilities to create your Stuff.

        Good Luck !

People have sucessfully run Vsig on macs under Parallels and similar. But, how to do it is beyond my limited wisdom.

Actuall Eventide, suggesting I run virtual boxes etc on my main studion Mac. It is clear of porn, internet browsing, any unessacary software, no games. It is the stable source of my workflow, running Ptools HD10 my control 24 logic lexicon, slate Ozone etc.

If I  pay 5k plus on a pro  outboar box  would reasonably expect it to connect to the industry standar OSX, and 10 years ago Mac osx had an equal strangle hold in the pro arena, ( not talking peoples bedrooms, but not too many 5-6k bits of kit in peoples bedrooms)  Not using bad language in a public forum, but as an avid rowing fan…

this is absolute (rhymes with rowlocks)

Actually it does connect to OSX, or any other computer via MIDI, serial, AES, analog audio, etc.  99% of the users will never want to invest the time and energy to create new presets using VSig or any other tool.  They are focused on using the product with it’s 1500+ presets to make music/dialog/fx/etc.  Most can find a preset close to what is needed, edit it, and move on.

For the handful of people willing to sit down with VSig and go through the process of creating a preset from scratch, investing in a separate (cheap) dedicated computer to do so would seem prudent.  In addition, for a relatively small compnay like Eventide, hiring the necessary staff with expertise in Mac development, Windows, and the Eventide/VSig world would not be cheap and would likely add to the overall cost of the product.

This topic (and others related to VSig) have been beaten to death on various forums and the bottom line is – it is what it is, so adapt and move on, Eventide isn’t going to do anything about it.
