In Emote stand alone Sessions> Midi, there are 3 toggles that seem to not stay clicked once you move the mouse off of them, then seem to stay clicked on their own after many attempts. What are these toggles for? I saw nothing in the Emote manual for this.

The fact that they sometimes seem to not stay clicked is a known bug. Some switches won't update after you've clicked them until you move the mouse away.
The manual's currently undergoing renovations and this is now included:
4.1.7. MIDI
The MIDI screen displays options to enable and disable MIDI feedback.
4.1.7.1. FEEDBACK_DIN
Sends MIDI from the MIDI-in DIN jack directly to the MIDI-out DIN jack.
4.1.7.2. FEEDBACK_USB
Sends MIDI from MIDI controllers plugged into the USB-A ports back to those very same MIDI controllers.
4.1.7.3. FEEDBACK_DAW
Sends MIDI from a USB host plugged into the USB-B port back to the very same USB host.

I just set this up with my nanoKONTROL2 and you might find it useful. This allows you to make changes on the H9k that will be reflected on the controller's LEDs. For example, map a button on the controller that bypasses an algorithm. Now when you bypass it from the H9k, the button's LED will toggle on and off.
To do this, set your H9k MIDI setting to FEEDBACK_USB. You have to change the nanoKONTROL2 settings for this to work. Download and open up the Korg Kontrol Editor app and select your nanoKONTROL2. At the very top of the controls list, you'll see 'Common'. Select it, find the LED mode setting, and change it to external. Write back to the controller, and you can now control the LEDs from the H9k.
