could not install FW via Direct Updater since H9 already has 5.8.5(1) installed. So I did six complete full factory resets and now it seems to work again. At least the listed presets act like normal. Hopefully it will remain like that.

Have you tried reinstalling the latest firmware using the Direct Updater? You should also do a full factory reset after that (powering up with black encoder and right footswitch pressed and held)
