      Hi

      When I’m opening a Logic session, the inserted Emote plugin does not automatically bring up the setting that was stored with the session. You have to remember to open the plugin. Then, 50% of  the time Emote will prompt you : “The DAW holds state data, would you like to restore it?” At least at that point you can have it restored. But the other half of the time it doesn’t remember it at all, even if you open the plug in. There is no way to look for it. It just brings up what ever was used last in the H9k. Couldn’t this just be done like every other plugin? Are there plans to fix this?

      Are you using auto-connect? I have found that this issue is usually due to auto-connect being on. What happens is you open the DAW project, Emote connects to the H9000 in about 5 seconds, and the state restore pop-up does not come up when you open the plug-in window after the connection has been made.

      You can either open the plug-in window very quickly when you open the DAW project (not recommended) or you can turn auto-connect off. When you do this, you should first open Emote every time you open a new DAW project, then connect to the H9000, and you should reliably be able to use the state restore pop-up. I’ve been using the H9000 with multiple DAW projects recently and this has worked fine for me once I turned auto-connect off.

      I understand that this is not the best workflow and we do hope to improve this, but I cannot provide a timeline for when this will be addressed.

      Please try my suggestions above and let me know if that works.

      I’ve tried your suggestions every way I could think of, without reliable results. What was not clear to me was the fact the setting of the auto-connect switch gets stored when I save the session. To be able to follow your instructions, I would, everytime before quitting a sessions, need to set the auto-connect switch to off, in order to then to set it to ON again when opening another session, according to your suggestions. In any case I tried this many different ways and got only what seem like random results.
      Is there anything else I could try?

        Yes, the state of auto-connect will be saved with the DAW project, but I am not understanding what your mean by “then to set it to ON again when opening another session”.

        You’ll want to save all of your DAW projects with auto-connect off. Then when you open then DAW project, you select the H9000 “connect” button on the left side of the screen to connect to the H9000, not the auto-connect button.

        If you follow these instructions, auto-connect should never be on and every time you open a DAW project you’ll need to open the Emote plug-in window. Emote should be in the Devices View and when you click “connect” you should see the state restore prompt.

        It is best practice to also save a copy of the H9000 session for each DAW project. The state restore is simply saved in the DAW, and saving the Session is a more reliable way to save/recall your settings.

      I’ve said this before, but I’m going to reiterate: Both of these points would be considered show-stopper bugs in any other plugin. The user doesn’t–and shouldn’t–expect to have to open the GUI of a plugin to restore its state. Saving the state of a plugin in the DAW’s session is again what the user expects. They might save the state as a separate file if they intend to use the settings in other sessions or share them with someone else, but other than that the DAW session is where the plugin’s state is saved.

      I realize that Emote is an unusual plugin in that it communicates with a complicated piece of external hardware, but these behaviors are–forgive my bluntness–defects in the product. Consider also that these behaviors are not present in other plugins which communicate with hardware, such as Universal Audio’s UAD products and the (now-orphaned) TC Electronic Powercore and Access Virus TI plugins.

        Thanks for your input. We understand this can be improved.

        Until we are able to improve this, you should be able to use the state restore reliably by following my instructions and keeping auto-connect off. This has worked well for me.

        One company is dealing with an issue now rendering their entire plugin suite nearly unusable (not to mention many Console problems that have been fixed  and apollo driver issues) and the other is completely out of the rackmount processing game, relegated to mostly low budget guitar pedals.

         

        Lets not act like Eventide is the only company that can use some improvement on bug squashing. Being fair, both UA and Eventide make fantastic product but to use UA as an example of keeping the wheels spinning is laughable.

        Now if you said Fractal Audio, there will only be one of them in a lifetime. I’m convinced Cliff writes firmware updates in his sleep as hes dreaming of new ways to use his products.

      I don’t mind having to connect each time. It’s just a couple of clicks, which requires a few seconds. Once we know what to do, it’s a trivial matter.
