Let’s say a loop has already been recorded with all its particular algorithms, edits, etc. Is it possible to now play that loop back while playing over it with a completely different sound? If so, please explain how.

Winging this, off the top of my head:  I think you’d need the Looper as one Preset instance, and the ‘completely different sound’ as the other Preset.  Insert Mode Program.  Looper first, in Series, if you want the loop to be processed by the ‘other sound’, too.  Other sound first, in Series, if you want the loop to remain unprocessed [Loop Mix @ 50%].

Probably the cleanest way would be the Looper and ‘other sound’ in Parallel, each 100% wet, then fold in your input at the Program level.  I’ve posted some H9 / Timefactor threads on storing one-shot loops, so you can adapt that to something similar in the H90.  [Playback mode switched away from one-shot; to one of the looping modes].

Obviously, this will be a two-part process:  Record the loop, start playing it back, then play over / alongside the loop with the ‘completely different sound’.  That is, unless I am misunderstanding your question, and the loop is already stored on a device external to the H90.

      Brock,

Thank you for your response. You have not misunderstood my question. My H90 will be arriving tomorrow. I’m looking forward to getting and using it. I’m sure the learning curve will be somewhat substantial but therein lies the fun of learning its capabilities. Thanks again.

      Things to keep in mind:
The H90 does not store loops – if you switch to a different program (or away from the looper preset), the loop is gone. You can do all sorts of amazing things to the loop, and the looper algorithm (/preset) is really robust and an amazing tool for creative live manipulation. But unlike many other loopers (such as the EHX 720), the loop cannot be saved or exported.

The H90 pairs two presets together in each “program,” and changing one of the presets usually means switching to a new program in normal usage. (Example: program X has a chorus and a reverb, and if you want to change that chorus to a delay (for example) you need to make a second program with a delay and reverb, rather than just switching the chorus to delay). When using a looper, changing the program with erase the loop when the H90 loads the new program.

Work around: You may be able to (manually) switch the “other” preset after recording the loop to something else by manually scrolling through the different presets for the non-looper preset slot. (I have not confirmed this). There are some “filters” for navigating through the (vast) lists of presets, but it would still need to be done by hand.

      Looper question#3

I got a EH triple switch, is it possible to assign each switch of it as controller for AuxSwitch1 button = record

      AuxSwitch2 button = play

AuxSwitch3 button = erase or stop

      ?!?

      thank you very much eventide

Yes. That’s how I have mine set up.
You just have to map each function to the appropriate switch.
note that the aux switches are 1-3 if it’s in the first aux switch jack on the H90 and 4-6 if it’s in the second. (I have an expression pedal in the first jack, so my 3 button aux switch is 4-6).

My setup, as well.  An expression pedal for the dynamic performance aspects, and the aux switches (or MIDI) for the core looper functions.  In addition, a 1-button looper assignment to a Perform switch makes for a handy ‘function monitor’.

Ditto. The expression pedal with the Looper is great for feedback control, or swelling the loop in/out behind your live playing.

Also, the 1-button looper assignment gives you access to the Undo/Redo and Empty Loop functions, which you can’t get from assigning the “basic 3” to an aux switch.
