I have my H9000 mounted without any space above or below, and am a bit worried about thermals. Would it help if I were to unscrew the plates covering up the expansion card slots? Or would that be worse for dust getting into the unit.

Same here, I have two spare slots and have thought about this. I wonder if it would be possible to put a mesh plate in place of the standard blanking plate?

The H9000 is designed with ventilation from the sides of the unit, and the fan helps regulate the temperature. As long as the sides of the unit are not blocked, there is nothing to worry about if you have no space above/below. I don’t think airflow from the expansion card slots would make much of a difference since there are already openings on both sides of the unit.

The sides of ours are clear so that’s good to know, thanks.

Also sounds like a way to get excess dust or pests crawling in. Creating gaping holes in the chassis this way may also reduce whatever positive airflow was designed with the fan, actually reducing the amount of heat removed from the unit. I wouldn’t do this.

I changed my fan to a faster one on my M5000

I am much more worried about the display longevity on H9000

As an example seek the info on H3000, the customers had to change their display in about 2007

My H9000 basically had no room on it’s side so it was getting quite hot. I cut a hole in the side of my travel case and now it’s running nice and cool.

Cant see if you allready did it, but you need hole on the other side too, not just the one on the pic.
