      I’ve read a couple posts (here and TGP) that confirm

      a) “…H90 will accept balanced TRS without issue..”, and

      b) “…the ring of the TRS cable will be shorted to the sleeve on H90”.

      I’d like to try to use H90s inserts to send/receive to/from a TRS balanced device that has “one phase shorted to ground”.  Does this complicate matters?  ie, does one device ‘shorting to ground’ and H90 ‘shorting to sleeve’ introduce any signal issues, and/or potential for damage to either unit?

      I’m probably overthinking this, but better safe than sorry. 🙂

      What’s the device? If it has one phase connected to ground, it’s not actually a balanced IO. Either way, I’d suspect that the grounded phase is the ring, which would be exactly the same situation as the H90 (and thus indistinguishable from using unbalanced I/O).

      As the response I quoted (in OP) was likely a translation, maybe there’s something getting lost in translation?

      The manual there doesn’t say anything other than that the I/O are balanced.

      They do note that the I/O are diode-protected; the H90’s I/O are also diode-protected, so you are unlikely to do any damage to either device by connecting them under normal circumstances..

      Whether you have signal issues will depend (as always) on many factors, but unless you use very long cables I doubt it will be due to the balanced/unbalanced nature of the I/O.  If you practice good signal hygiene, you should be ok.

      I should add, it does look like they have a low interpretation of “pro” level for their inputs, so I would see if you get enough signal with your H90 outputs in instrument level rather than line level (the H90 will comfortably exceed their recommended maximum input level, if pushed).

      By the time it’s freely available out in the wild, the compounded interest should help soothe some of the sting.
