I’d be all for additional channel configurations since I deal with multi speaker layouts that don’t conform to the Atmos specs MOST of the time. Working with Academics, or for Theme Parks, Immersive entertianment, Expereiential Events… anything OTHER than Film, has a good deal of need for speaker layouts that are not the standard Surround or Atmos layouts. Where that fits into a business model and what the cost/benefits of enabling these non-dolby-blessed speaker layous I can’t argue….
