Hi,
I am playing with MIDI on my H9 Max (working nicely) and came up with two questions:
- Can the algorithm be selected via MIDI?
- You can modify all 10 parameters, but I can’t find documentation mapping parameter numbers to algorithm parameter names. Does this exist?
For the first, as a workaround, I created a preset using the appropriate algorithm but that isn’t ideal.
For the second, I am assuming that it is in the same order as the algorithm documentation. I do see values displayed on the screen as I change parameters, but not names. So with a little effort I could figure it out, but I am hoping it is either straightforward or I just missed the documentation.
Thanks
John

Hi John,
Can the algorithm be selected via MIDI?
Every time you recall a preset you’re recalling the preset of an algorithm. So, indirectly, yes, you can recall an algorithm. You can’t directly scroll through algorithms using MIDI.
The only place to see the algorithm that is recalled is on the H9 Control app. The pedal display will only show the name of the preset; it’s understood that you know which algorithm is recalled. To view the algorithm name on the H9, double press the Presets button. In fact, after you do the double press you’ll see the algorithm name and you can use the black encoder to scroll through algorithms.
You can modify all 10 parameters, but I can’t find documentation mapping parameter numbers to algorithm parameter names. Does this exist?
Every algorithm on the H9 has ten parameters of control. On the H9 Control app, if you go to the Pedal tab > MIDI Settings > Assign MIDI CC messages > Set Parameter 1 … 10, these “set parameter” settings correspond to the 10 parameters of an algorithm from top left to bottom right. So there is a way to globally map parameter controls for every algorithm. What you have to understand is Parameter 1 on one algorithm might correspond to a Mix setting, or an Intensity setting on another algorithm, or Gain on yet another.
For the first, as a workaround, I created a preset using the appropriate algorithm but that isn’t ideal.
That’s actually how it works. What is not ideal about this?
For the second, I am assuming that it is in the same order as the algorithm documentation. I do see values displayed on the screen as I change parameters, but not names. So with a little effort I could figure it out, but I am hoping it is either straightforward or I just missed the documentation. Thanks John
To see parameter names you can press the X,Y,Z buttons. What I like to do is set one of those buttons to Expert mode by pressing and holding it down for two seconds. Then with consecutive presses you can see all the parameter names of the algorithm and just use the encoder to change values when you land on the parameter you want to edit.
