I seem to be having a problem with using MIDI CC messages to switch the H9 patch between active and bypass. I’m using the H9 with the Fender Tone Master Pro (TMP) as the MIDI controller. I have other MIDI things working with the Fender TMP, but can’t seem to get bypass/active switching to work. I’m using CC 0 with a value of 0 for bypass or 127 for active. I have a TMP preset where the H9 FX loop is engaged (not bypassed) in all scenes. My idea was to have the base and all scenes send the desired PC message with the H9 bypassed, then use a MIDI footswitch to set the H9 to active when I wanted the H9 effect. But when I set it up this way, the H9 effect is never bypassed, always active. Can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Thank you.

          Hello,

Which pedal function on the H9 do you have your CC 0 mapped to? You should be using the “Toggle between Active and Bypass” pedal function.

I’d suggest using H9 Control to make your MIDI mappings since it is easier to confirm you have the right functions mapped.

Well, that was definitely part of my problem! I had it set to “Toggle between Active and Bypass”, but I had manually assigned Bypass to MIDI CC 0 and Active to MIDI CC 127 misunderstanding them for CC values. Once I set BOTH Active and Passive to MIDI CC 0, I got the MIDI switch on the TMP to work. But there is one additional thing: For this to work as expected, at least with the TMP, I had to set the initial patch active/bypass setting to bypass. That allowed me to do an initial program change when calling up the TMP preset from another TMP preset. The PC simply set the correct effect, cancelling any previous H9 patch. Then, once in the current TMP preset, the MIDI switch I set up in the TMP worked as expected. When setting up a MIDI footswitch in the TMP, you can set both an active and inactive CC message, so the active value sent MIDI CC 0 with a value of 127 to set the H9 patch to active, and the inactive CC message sent MIDI CC0 with a value of 0. And it appears to all work now. Any additional follow up input appreciated.

Looking at this further, I now see that there are THREE MIDI mappings that could affect the bypass/activate behavior: Toggle between Active and Bypass, Bypass, Activate. Right now, I have ALL three set to MIDI CC 0. Is that right? Should only Toggle between Active and Bypass be set to MIDI CC 0 and the other two not mapped to anything? What are the respective behaviors of all three of these settings. I think I’m getting more confused instead of less…

                Hello,

The toggle function is for a single CC to be assigned to toggle between active/bypass.

The individual active and bypass functions are for when you want a different CC for either of the active or bypass commands.

Sorry, I’m not following what you mentioned in the previous post. You mentioned it is working now, are you still having issues with the setup?

What I have now seems to be working, but I want to clarify. I should unmap the the individual active and bypass functions, correct? And leave the Toggle setting set to MIDI CC 0, correct? And with it set up that way do I still need to send the CC value of 0 to bypass and CC value of 127 to activate??? Or just send CC 0 with NO value to toggle???
