  Hi,
  
  I'm new to H9 and a complete novice to midi. Is it possible to send tempo from H9 to Alesis SR 18, so that if I set the tempo via tap tempo on the H9 the drum patterns will play in sync? Thanks.

  Yes, you'll want to enable MIDI clock out on your H9; the setting is described on page 42 of the H9 manual:
