H90 Dual Routing Volume Issue
Hello,
Bottom Line Up Front: When I use an INIT patch or inactivate (mute) a program (P switch in Select Mode), I get a HUGE burst of gain coming from my guitar amplifier. Doesn’t seem to be a pure “pass through” of signal?
Background:
I have just purchased a new H90 and trying to figure out how to incorporate into my existing amp and pedal setup.
My plan is to use Dual Routing mode. I am going into and out of my existing pedal board, mono, and then into Channel 1 IN of H90. Then Path 1 goes out of Channel 1 OUT and into front of my amp. All mono.
Path 2 has Channel 3 OUT going to amp’s loop RECEIVE and Channel 3 IN coming from amp’s loop SEND. Again, mono.
Global Settings: Dual Routing.
Starting with an INIT patch, it’s incredibly LOUD. Are there global level settings, or is this something I must do per patch? Seems like it should just pass the signal through but there’s an incredible addition of gain.
I’m experimenting with another patch that has series delay + chorus algorithms on Path 2 and nothing on Path 1. Very loud when muting the program.
Any advice or help? Thanks.

Hello Sonicdeviant,
Seems like you just need to configure the operating levels of the H90 to match that of your signal flow. Usually, the front end of an amp functions at instrument level while the FX loop runs at line level. Go into the System menu > I/O > In 1/2 & Out 1/2 should be set to Inst, while In 3/In4 & Out3/Out4 should be set to Line. Here’s a video explaining the process: https://youtu.be/5y14LwN9oAk?feature=shared&t=2091

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, I had all of that set correctly—and even set them all to INSTR in attempts to affect the sudden change of gain when bypassing a program.
I’m doing a few more experiments to rule out my amp first. It’s a Boss Katana Artist MkII, and so I’m going to check the software effects loop settings to ensure they’re not goofy. May not be the H90 at all.
I did rule out my pedal board by going directly into the H90 with my guitar. Also ruled out cables. Same outcome
Thank you and will report back.

Same outcome Thank you and will report back.
Can confirm that it appears it was the internal send/receive settings on the Katana; both were set at 100 instead of default 50. Although Algorithms 1,2 in series on path B seem really quiet. When I set them as parallel on path B, all is good. Could be a function of the specific Algorithms? I’m using a delay and chorus.

Glad you figured out the misconfigured effects loop.

Are both paths set to the same operating level? Every Preset has In/Out gain controls that may not be set to zero based on the way the preset was designed. Also, every preset has a Mix control that when not set to100 will introduce dry signal that in parallel will have an additive effect which may through things off.
