Hello –
We have released Misha Firmware 1.1.6. Please follow the instructions from the QRG to update your Misha: https://downloads.eventide.com/audio/manuals/misha/Misha-QRG-Web-RevA1.pdf
FIXES
Previous versions were sending incorrect polyphonic aftertouch bytes for all PassThru modes, except for mode=PassThru. This has been fixed.
NEW FEATURES
Mouse/Trackpad Control: this version allows a mouse or trackpad to be plugged into the USB input to trigger Misha buttons/functions or affect pitch bend or velocity.
This trackpad, has been tested and works. Other similar products should work as well, as well as wired mice.
Changes to Setup Menu
In Misha’s menu, USB Kbd Mapping has been moved from “Setup/System” to a new category, “Setup/USB”. And USB has a second category, Mouse
Mouse
A mouse or trackpad allows these gestures:
- Click (Left, Right Middle)
- Drag X direction
- Drag Y direction
- Double tap/drag
- Scroll (finger moving up and down on right edge of trackpad)
The menu items in “Mouse” are as follows:
Button Map: tapping Left/Right/Middle button can now substitute for the same list of Misha buttons/actions that one can assign to a MIDI or USB keyboard
Wheel Function (far right edge of trackpad): None/Pitch Bend/Velocity (set to one of 3 options to assign the wheel function)
X Function: None/Pitch Bend/Velocity (set to one of 3 options to assign the X movement)
Y Function: None/Pitch Bend/Velocity (set to one of 3 options to assign the Y movement)
Double Tap: Enabled/Disabled. If enabled, then pitch bend is sent/velocity is affected while the finger is down, and then pitch bend/velocity returns to ‘center’ when released. Otherwise, pitch bend/velocity is reset on each new keypress.
When double tap is enabled, it overrides whatever is assigned to its button mapping.
Note that mouse operations have an effect only when a note is currently sounding.
Setup/SD Card now has a “Mouse Map” section, to save the button map settings. The other settings are saved in “Menu Settings”. And all these are saved with the “All Settings” selection as well.

ParticipantThanks for the info. Sounds really interesting.
Suggestion 1) when you post about a new firmware, can you go ahead and include a link to the new firmware? This would save me/us time having to search for it.
Suggestion 2) since this process uses the Eventide Device Manager, can you also include a link to the latest version of that too?
Unfortunately I’ve had such troubles updating Misha firmware in the past (I have two, and neither was easy, and took many many attempts), that I’m pretty leery of ever trying it again, but if I’m feeling brave I may try it (if I don’t have to spend a lot of time searching for the files).
Thanks

ParticipantI reread the instructions, I forgot that this is all done through the Eventide Device Manager. Apologies for my earlier reply. I did try to edit it, just saying.

ParticipantI can not get my Misha to connect to EDM. I have tried three different usb cables and three different USB ports. I am currently on 1.1.1.
Hold down USR1 and ShiftDown, nothing connected, power up and get USR1 and USR2 lights on. Plug in USB cable, I get no windows connection noise. Open up EDM, no devices. Search for devices, nothing found. What on earth am I doing wrong?
I even went and downloaded/installed EDM 2.0.1

ParticipantUh, well apparently it was my USB hub. I moved some stuff around so I could physically get at a port on my actual PC buried under the desk and that seems to have done the trick. In case anyone else is having issues definitely try connecting directly.

Glad you got it working. Yes, we have seen issues sometimes getting EDM to work with hubs.

ParticipantHi there, sorry to bother but my Misha is not sending MIDI signals at alla. I have updated the firmware, tried almost every option at the menu and almost 6 different synths and still doesn’t send any MIDI message. CV and Gate work perfectly with eurorack, but MIDI not AT ALL.
What should I do? -

Hello –
Sorry to hear you’re having this problem.
Here are some questions to help us diagnose what is happening with your system:
– are your synths using the same size MIDI jack for input (3.5 mm stereo, which is in use with many eurorack units, as opposed the earlier standard, the 5 pin DIN connector)? Or are you sending to synths which accept the larger 5 pin DIN, in which case I am assume you are using the “Type A” 3.5 mm to 5 pin DIN converter cable supplied with Misha. Let us know which it is. Just to explain: there are two flavors of these 3.5 mm to 5 pin DIN converter cables: “Type A” and “Type B”. If you are using Type B you won’t get MIDI out of Misha. In any case, please describe the connections you have tried, for example: Misha MIDI Out to 3.5 mm -> 5 pin DIN converter cable -> 5 pin DIN Midi cable -> Moog Prodigy MIDI In, etc.
– if possible, can you send the MIDI output of Misha into a computer where you can see the bytes coming out (if any)? On a Mac you can use the freeware program “MIDI Monitor”, and Ableton for example has a MIDI Monitor device, etc. Doing this will help us determine if the problem is Misha or your receiving synths (though if you’ve tried 6 it seems unlikely to be a problem on the receiving side)
Thanks

ParticipantOMG! So simple but so revealing! Was the connector! My Misha didn’t came with the original connector (probably the retailer keep it) so I was using one from Arturia and tried another one from Polyend. Booth didn´t work, so I went for another one (think it was from a Volca Beats) and worked! Great explanation about the 2 types of jack midi connector, didn’t hear about it before! Thanks a lot!

Oh great – yeah, these “standards” can be annoying! Glad it had such a simple resolution.

ParticipantHello, please forgive me for these basic questions. I have been using Logic Pro as my music production tools. I have no experience with Eurorack modules, but I was so intrigued with Misha that I bought it and a Eurorack case. I’ve gotten Misha up and running, and listen to with headphones using Misha’s audio out. What I’d like to do is connect Misha to Logic Pro, and use it as a midi controller so that Misha transmits midi data to software synths in Logic. Do I need an audio interface to do that? Or is there another way to connect Misha to my laptop and Logic Pro?

Hello –
Misha does transmit MIDI from its MIDI Out jack and yes, this can be sent to your computer and Logic Pro. You will need a two components to make this happen.
1 . Type “A” 3.5 mm TRS male to 5 pin DIN female connector (included with Misha)
Your Misha comes with a short converter cable that you where you can plug one end into the MIDI out jack, so that the MIDI now is being sent to a female 5 pin DIN connection. (Just to explain: the Eurorack world uses 3.5 mm TRS connectors for MIDI, whereas the standard elsewhere has always been a somewhat larger 5 pin DIN. )
2. USB-to-MIDI converter (not included with Misha)
You will now need to convert this signal to USB in order to connect to your laptop. You are correct that many audio interfaces include a MIDI converter; however, it is not necessary to have an audio interface. All that is required is a MIDI-to-USB converter, such as this one:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/922801-REG/iconnectivity_midi_01_mio_1_in_1_out.html
(I’ve seen btw some converters on Amazon that lost data, so make sure you get a decent one.)
And btw It’s possible that by now there exists a cable that does #1 and #2 in one go, but in a very quick search just now I didn’t see one.
With those two pieces of equipment, you can send MIDI into your laptop. Once you plug your usb-to-MIDI converter into the laptop (let’s say you do get the “Mio”), then in Logic Pro you will set the MIDI input to be “Mio”. (If you are using a MIDI controller keyboard, it is a similar process, where you will select it from a list of available MIDI inputs.)
Once that you see that working, you might be interested in syncing Logic Pro to Misha, so your sequences work with the MIDI Clock from Logic Pro. In this case you will need a second type “A” 3.5 mm TRS to 5 pin DIN female adapter, such as this:
(You won’t need a second midi-to-usb adapter tho, since it has both in and out on it already.)
Don’t worry about syncing til you see midi flowing in both directions – i.e., you should be able to send MIDI from Misha to the laptop, and also from the laptop into Misha.
Hope this doesn’t seem too confusing! Feel free to ask follow up questions if not clear.

ParticipantHi,
I’ve been attempting to update my Misha to the new firmware (from 1.0, just recently purchased). EDM detects the Misha in update mode, but when I attempt to load any of the listed firmwares, I get the message “Your device needs to be rebooted manually. After rebooting reselect your device.”
I have rebooted the device manually a number of times, and it stays in Update Mode, which I don’t appear to be able to get the Misha out of, now. When attempting to install a firmware, it appears to be going fine for a few percent before it jumps to this reboot message.
Is there anything I can do to get the Misha out of Update mode, do a factory reset, and attempt this again from the start?
Thanks,
George

Quick question: are you removing the cable before rebooting? There is a quirk where it powers the unit and therefore you can’t reboot. Just want to rule this out before going further

Try this to see if it boots up normally
>Power down the unit. While pressing in both Key and Scale knobs, turn the power on again.
But I’m guessing right now you have no way to get back to normal operation
Anyway let me the results of that test and we’ll take it from there – depending on what’s going on you may lose whatever is in memory . Hopefully you’ve backed up anything that was important
Thanks

ParticipantTrying this did not boot the device. Thankfully I had nothing stored in memory, as updating the firmware was the first thing I was doing with the Misha.

Ok- good that you had nothing in memory
and by “did not boot the device” I guess you mean that when you powered up the two white lights came on, I e as if in update mode, right?
I’m going to check with some other people at Eventide to see if they have an idea what else you can do
Btw- we have had some users who have had difficulty updating if using a hub when connecting to a computer. I don’t know if that’s the case with you but if so whenever this gets reset I’d recommend not using one

Actually a user has mentioned just he had similar problems to you and eliminating the hub resolved it. Let me know if you were using a hub and if removing it from the connection helps

ParticipantCorrect, the device is coming on in update mode still.
I am not using a hub, but I will try to rotate through other ports to see if that resolves the issue.
