Great! Except…the update utility won't let me log in (despite the same user/pass being able to access this forum) and the release notes aren't there to download. Huh? Big gig tonight, please help!

Thinking denied access to the update may have been because I haven't actually registered the Modfactor yet, I attempted to do that too, only to find that the serial number on it is supposedly invalid!
Me thinks there are some server troubles on the good ship Eventide?

Same thing happening here, just keeps on saying its an invalid username and password even though it works perfectly fine with my Timefactor and my Modfactor is registered ok.

You must register your ModFactor (or any Eventide product) before updating. You can register products here:
http://eventide.com/User/RegisterProduct.aspx
Once you've registered it will show up in the "My Products" list here:
http://eventide.com/User/RegisteredProducts.aspx
If you still have login problems, please try to update at least three times and see if it works after a few tries. If you continue to have problems please let us know so we can investigate further.

To what does the update relate? Any changes to speak of?

No sonic improvements to speak of although I'm assured by the support team (thanks guys!) that this is on the cards for future releases. At the moment they've mainly addressed switching issues.
*Note to Et Support: Perhaps you could make the Version Release Notes available for general download?

I cannot register mine either. I've tried all the combinations I can think of multiple times, i.e. with and without the "MF", with the"MF" followed by a space and not followed by a space.
Help!

You must type the 'dash' in the serial number when you register, ie
MF-123456
