I appreciate Octavox features a lot
Mostly the Micro Pitch Shifting side of the plug.
I also find the Diatonic Pitch Shifter quit inspiring and a lot of fun to play with
But I also find it harmony-wise sadly limited because of the provided scales.
Would it possible to add new scales?
A chromatic scale and a user defined scale would be really great.
Or at least a chromatic mode that would allow to play tones outside of a scale would also be very usefull.
It would allow to play more sophisticated chords.
At the moment it is for example not possible to play a #5 or #11 or b9 and so on.
It is not even possible to play b3 and 3 together.

Hi Teacue-
Glad you are liking Octavox for the most part. We've had a number of requests about a chromatic scale and user defined scale, but unfortunately the internal architecture of the plug-in doesn't allow much for this (as this plug-in is mostly taken from the much older TDM version).
It sounds like you would mostly want chromatic/user scales with MIDI mode, is that correct? We could potentially work in chromatic scale ability only in that mode.
Best,
Tom

Thanks a lot for your answer.
Thanks a lot also for the fact that, as I wanted to make a more detailed answer, I had to a have a deeper look to Octavox.
And … I noticed that I fully oversaw the “Pitch Tracking” option!
I realize now that deactivating “Pitch Tracking” allows to get tones outside from a scale
Also using the “Pitch Cent” function one can get any altered intervals one needs.
Both facts already make the most of my previous features request obsolete!
So, sorry for the unnecessary noise.
About the second part of your answer:
No, I was not asking about using scales with Midi Mode.
Mainly because until now I could not find a practical use for this mode because of the fact that it works only on already recorded material.
But it could be that I still not fully understand how this mode really works.
I will search further.
But of course any added feature is welcome
Again thanks for your answer and for your work.
PS. Any hint on what next Plugin from Anthology X will be available on his own?
I would love a combination of H910 together with H949

MIDI mode is mostly intended to be used as a live performance tool (if you were using a DAW such as Mainstage or Ableton Live), or to enhance compososition abilities with the plug-in. The idea being that you can quickly change intervals with a keyboard on the fly. If you are using the plug-in in a mix, then the feature is less applicatble. (Of course, not saying you couldn't find a way to use it in that scenario.)

I'm afraid I can't say much on that…but rest assurred we are considering what end users are requesting!

Tom

Hi there,
after trying the demo I am thinking about purchasing Octavox, it sounds impressive and really works fine as a live performance tool. A chromatic mode for live MIDI control would be a must for me, though. Scale modes are nice, but also limiting. How likely is it that you are going to implement this feature in the near future?
Thanks!

Hi Chick-
Unfortunately, we don't have any plans to implement a chromatic mode in the near future, though I won't rule out the possibility that it could happen at some point, in this or a similar product.
Best,
Tom

Add me to the list of users that would appreciate a chromatic mode for MIDI keyboard input. While scale mode can be worked around while doing processing after the fact, when I am using Octavox by triggering notes via MIDI in a live performance, there is really no need to be bound by a scale at all.
There are definitely times where I may want to modulate from minor to a major, add a major 7th when playing in natural minor, or even just throw in a chromatic phrase like a blue note. Because I am not really thinking in terms of set scales when performing live, in the heat of the moment I sometimes go for an out of scale note resulting in silence. It is definitely very limiting for live performance use.

It’s a pity. Such a beautiful plugin, but no jazz permitted.
Is there another Eventide product that supports live chromatic MIDI input?

Yes, it is unfortunate, but unfortunately live MIDI control was added after Octavox was initially released, and it is actually somewhat difficult to backport chromaticism based on the internal structure of the plug-in.
H910 and H949 support live chromatic midi input, though only one voice.

Having no idea about how the internal architecture of the plugin works, I still wonder what the limitations exactly are. Pentatonic, whole tone and major scales have different numbers of notes. Is there a maximum?
Also, is there a workaround for live performance purposes? Like, for example, assigning scale switches to MIDI CCs? Or do I need two instances of the plugin for two scales in a song?

Depending on your DAW (for instance if you're using Live), you could map MIDI CCs to the key and scale.

Implementig the cromatic scale mode it would open this tool to a countless number of creative applications.
As it is now is very very limiting.
I really hope eventide will update this product as i guess it would be commercially worth……. many jazz/electronic music improvisers would love it !

We hear you. The hope is to make this happen in a future product.

Hello! I’ve been using an H7600 borrowed from a friend soley for the MIDI Harmony preset. My boy Patrick at Eventide was super awesome and reccomended I demo Octavox which is the much more efficient than using the H7600 for one effect.
It’s pretty much perfect except for the lack of chromatic scale in MIDI mode. Would drop the $200 instantly if it had that. Otherwise I gotta stick to the H7600 that was lent to me.
I’m also using an auto-tuning effect to squash the input pitch to one note so that I can play MIDI mode more like a vocoder (see below). In this way, a note on the keyboard results the same pitch from the Octovox voice. Would love if that was built in too, but that is not as critical as a chromatic scale.
Let me know if we can expect a chromatic scale for Octavox soon. I know lots of people would love that feature. Thank you!

Glad you're liking it for the most part. Unfortunately, it's not feasible for us to add a chromatic scale to MIDI mode, due to the way the plugin is built.
Sorry about that!

I really liked the sound of the plugin, but I could not even imagine that in the 21st century there is no chromatic mode, I was not ready for this.
I did not expect this. you probably have a lot of requests to make chromatic mode at least in midi mode.
If you manage to do this, it will make your plugin a better vocoder.

If cubase can do it I truly believe you guys can
