      When using 'midigroups' to control the frontpanel of the Orville.. are the external midi placeholders   assign 1….assign 8  still available for controlling other parameters?

      yes, they are. Obviously you want to patch the placehoders and the midigroups controllers to completely different numbers, to avoid MIDI chaos.
