Hi Nick,
I need to open a new thread for this – as you suggested. What is the proper procedure to follow in order to update the H8000-FW and the database? Right now, on my H8000FW I have a) Family Modules (revision 5.6B1), b) Presets (revision 5.6B1), c) System ROM (5.6B2). I intend to upgrade to 5.6 very soon (my PC died) – am I correct to think that a, b, and c will be version 5.6 too? If so, after these are updated, do I simply download the database from the H8000FW via VSig? Do I need to re-save my user presets or my own algorithms once the database is updated?
Thanks
Yannis

Hi Yannis
On my unit, presets and system are 5.6, modules are 5.61. These are not necessarily the same – we use the System version as the name, since it usually changes most often.
Once they are updated, you should indeed download the database with Vsig.
You should not need to update your user presets unless one of the modules they use was changed, in which case it will suggest you do so.
You should not need to change any sigfiles, unless there was a major change to one of the modules, such as a change to the number of ins or outs. We try and avoid such changes for this reason.

Hi Nick,
thanks for the very swift reply! I will do as you suggested and let you know if something went wrong.

Hi again,
I just updated the OS of the H8000-FW to version 5.6. (Family modules revision 5.61, Presets revision 5.6, System ROM 5.6). I then downloaded the database from the H8000-FW to my laptop using VSig, it went straight to the location where the previous database was located – I checked the paths and the date of the file. Do I now need to re-save any presets (either system or user) so that they get "marked" by the new database? There is no way to tell which algorithms might have modules that are updated, too. Some time ago I tried to load an algorithm that had obviously an older module and it messed DSP A to the point that not even loading the MUTE program would work. I had to install a previous OS, reset to default, then the most current OS and delete the naughty algorithm so that it could work.
Shouldn't there be a utility to change them all to the most current version? Also why can't I update the OS using the serial cable (maybe through VSig again)? It seems that the functionality is already there.Regards,

Sorry – I was out a few days last week.
You do not need to resave any presets unless the H8000 tells you to. The database should be compatible with your previous one.
Relax and be happy – you are worrying too much.
