I noticed something kind of annoying, but say I have preset 8 running on the SPACE and then I switch to a new patch on my Boss ES-5 that sends a PC signal for the same PC number, the preset on the SPACE will reset and cutoff the tails. You might be thinking “well yeah, you’re telling it to change presets” but I present to you that the Strymon Timeline right next to it on my board does NOT do this. If that one receives a PC signal that’s identical to what’s already running it doesn’t do anything. This is most noticeable when I use the expression pedal to set the tails really high at tow down but the preset is saved to initialize in heel down, if I’ve got the tow down when I change patches it’s right back at heel down settings – yet the Timeline continues how I have those expression settings going.

So yeah, is there any way around this other that trying to think ahead to what order I’m going to change patches on the ES-5 and remove those patch changes? This seems like a bit of an oversight.

Sorry there is no way around this. Many devices work like this; sending a PC message is telling the device to load the Program, even if it is already loaded.

Do you have spillover enabled? That might be able to get your tails to ring out when the Program is reloaded. See page 48 of the user manual: https://s3.amazonaws.com/com.eventide.downloads/Product+Manuals/Space_UG_142335.pdf

I do have spillover enabled and set to the max of 5 seconds, but I use pretty ridiculously big reverbs so the cutoff is pretty drastic still.

Do you know if the H90 works like this as well?

Yes, sending a PC message will reload the currently loaded Program on the H90, but the spillover time goes up to 30 seconds on the H90 so you can have long reverb tails that will continue to ring when the current Program is reloaded.
