my amps channel switching is controlled via midi.  The amp also powers my midi controller via two of the five pins on my midi cable.  however, when the pitchfactor is added in series between the amp and the controller, the power to the controller is lost.

Is it safe to say that a midi controller that can be powered through a 5 pin midi cable will not see power when the pitchfactor is added between the device and the power source?

It is safe to say …

Don't know which pins you are using -there is no standard for this sort of power connection. The MIDI 1.0 Specification says that pins 1 and 3 are unused and should not be connected.

Some products, including our Eclipse and early Orvilles, used a 7 pin connector with the extra pins available for power.
